Sustainability & Responsibility Statement

The seafood industry in Atlantic Canada has learned some important lessons the hard way. With the collapse of the cod fishery in the late eighties, we have seen firsthand what poor resource management and over fishing can do. It can have devastating effects on the ecosystem and the communities that rely on it for their livelihood. As a result, the fishermen, plants and various government agencies now work closely together to assure proper management of all the fisheries that take place in our waters. FKS feels strongly that we need to manage all of our resources prudently. FKS aims to focus on species and fisheries that adhere to sustainability practices. All of our plants have one or are working towards one of the following designations: MSC, Ocean Wise, BAP, SeaChoice, Friend of the Sea. It is important to us at FKS that the legacy we leave our grandchildren is better than what we enjoy today.
